Whenever there are social uprisings there are attempts by those in power to spread mistrust and discord among the people fighting back. The recent uprisings in response to the murder of George Floyd have been hit by a wave of pushback in the form of brick-pile-conspiracies and cries of outside agitators. These fundamentally racist myths ignore the important role of Black militancy throughout history and fortify age old “good protester vs bad protester” divisiveness with a fresh spin on identity politics.
Further complicating this context is the failure of many white militants to navigate the complex dynamics of grief and rage within the communities they seek solidarity with.
To preserve our collective power we must learn to fight together.
